‘Soca Diva’ Claudette ‘CP’ Peters will make her return to the Party Monarch competition during this year’s Carnival festivities.
She confirmed the news while speaking on Observer AM on Friday.
“I decided at the last minute. I’m like, you know what, why not? A lot of times I say no because it’s tiring sometimes. You get out more than you get, and we’d say as a As artists, it’s because of our fans that we do this. Most of the time it’s true, but I’m signing up because it’s been a long time and I really want to,” Peters said.
This is good news for all her fans as the veteran singer did not participate in the 2019 edition of the competition.
His confirmation follows announcements of Tian Winter, Dennis ‘Menace XL’ Roberts, Drastic and Hard Knaxx who will also be taking part in the highly anticipated event.
Like other artists and residents, the Covid-19 pandemic has dealt a “hard blow” to Peters.
“I had just built my house. I moved in October and March, bam. I was already preparing for Carnival, and I was like, this is going to go away in a few weeks because that’s basically how it is, and we had no idea what Covid was, but it wasn’t two weeks and so, I had to try to find ways to entertain the audience and myself,” she explained.
Nonetheless, she said she tried to make the most of it and find different ways to entertain people through her “Hungry Belly” videos and impromptu musical performances.
“I realized the impact the Covid situation had had; it must have caused a mental breakdown in everyone, and so I felt like I had been given a gift, a gift to heal, and the music has a special healing, so I felt like I had to play a very important role in helping heal the pains that people were going through. I forget myself, but it makes me feel good too. I had to fend for myself to keep going,” she added.
Already, CP has released songs including “Need It” and “Stressless” for the holiday season.
Party Monarch will take place on July 31 at Carnival City, aka Antigua Recreation Grounds (ARG).
