Joe McGann was one of several soap stars to join Vera’s final episode as the very suspicious Julian Carr.

The actor, 63, has been on TV since 1985, starring in the BBC medical drama Casualty and the TV movie Prince Caspian, among other titles.

Most older viewers will recognize him as Charlie Burrows, the “housekeeper” on the ITV sitcom The Upper Hand – a role he played between 1990-1996.

But young Britons are more likely to know the Liverpool-born actor as Hollyoaks’ highly manipulative and narcissistic surgeon, Edward Hutchinson.

While at the BBC, his younger brother, Stephen, reprise his role as beloved Doctor Patrick Turner in Call the Midwife.

The 58-year-old began his acting career in 1982, starring in the West End musical Yakety Yak and rose to national fame when he starred in Emmerdale from 1999 to 2002 as Sean Reynolds.

In Call the Midwife, he plays a GP who works closely with the midwives at Nonnatus House and has been a part of the cast since season one in 2012.

His character suffered a nervous breakdown after WWII in 1945 and then lost his wife in 1957.

He is the youngest of a dynasty of acting siblings, with the men having two other siblings in the family.

Her 62-year-old brother Paul is arguably the most famous of the three and has appeared in numerous TV shows and movies, including Agatha Christie’s Marple, The Musketeers, Holby City, and Doctor Who.

His other brother Mark, 60, is known for his work on stage.

The brothers all starred together in the 1995 miniseries The Hanging Gale.

Fans of both shows were more than thrilled to see the brothers on prime-time TV.

“The McGann brothers take control of Sunday night television,” wrote one excited fan.

Another added: “Two McGann brothers on #TV pitted against each other. Guest Joe on # Vera @ StephenMcGann as usual in #CalltheMidwife.”

And a third wrote: “Love it when a brother of @mcgann appears on a TV show # vera # loveit # joemcgann # brothers”
