Mental Health In Motion, benefiting the Canadian Mental Health Association, will take place in Newmarket on June 12

When Vince’s Market decided to organize a team to participate in the annual fundraising run/run/walk for the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), York Region and South Simcoe, Mental Health In Motion, they initially set a target of $1,000, but market chairman Giancarlo Trimarchi managed to raise $7,000 in a single day.

Normally we do the donations, Trimarchi said, but when he asked friends, family, vendors and community members to donate, he was “blown away by the generosity of everyone. the world so far”.

Buoyed by the excitement over its fundraising success so far, more people are signing up to become members of the team every day, Trimarchi said.

“It’s really inspiring, it’s really nice.”

A new target of $10,000 has been set and Trimarchi is confident that the new target will be met and exceeded.

“I always like to underestimate and overdeliver,” he said.

The event ends a partnership with ACSM that began earlier in the year when ACSM’s Mobile Youth Walk-In Clinic program – a bus that provides free services to youth ages 12 to 25 – was chosen as the recipient of the Marketplace’s 2022 Community Product Initiative.

Every year, 15 per cent of the proceeds from the sale of certain in-store products are donated to charity and mental health issues are a cause that resonates with the supermarket chain and the family that operates it. .

The organization has been impacted by mental health issues, both during and before the pandemic, as has her own family, Trimarchi said.

“We see the need in the community, we see the need for quickly accessible resources for young people and so that’s really at the heart of it all. We love what they do and we think what they do is so important right now.”

The June 12 in-person event will begin and end at the Ray Twinney Recreational Center 100 Eagle St. W. and registrants have the option to participate virtually.
